MSNBC has fired regular guest Matthew Dowd, the talker who said, in so many words, that murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk got what he deserved.
But he isn’t the only hate-Kirk nut to lose a job.
So have other individuals in prominent positions who should know that they can’t hide their social media. Even members of the military are celebrating his death, which will almost certainly invite punishment…
Dowd sunk his career at MSNBC during an interview with talker Katy Tur minutes after Kirk was shot. For her part, Tur called Kirk “divisive” and “polarizing,” a sentiment that Dowd felt compelled to amplify.
“[Kirk has] been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech … sort of aimed at certain groups,” Dowd said:
And I always go back to hateful thoughts, lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that’s the environment we’re in, that … you can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have, and then saying these awful words, and not expect awful actions to take place.
Not smart.
MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler moved quickly to control damage.
“During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable,” she said. “We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”…
